AVAM's 17th annual thematic mega-exhibition, ALL THINGS ROUND: Galaxies, Eyeballs & Karma, is a celebration and call to awareness of the circular and voluptuous nature of life. This wholly original art exhibition features the exuberant works of 70+ inspired, intuitive artists including: Scott Weaver's 100,000 toothpick wonder,"Rolling Through The Bay;" Adolf Wölfli's intricate mandala-like works; spherical sculptures of artists who are sight-impaired; the micro dot sock-thread embroideries of Ray Materson; and so much more!
Students, come experience "The Visionary" in a whole new way!
Wednesdays for 3rd–6th grades
The American Visionary Art Museum (a place that pretty much means fun, creativity and surprises) is introducing a fabulous series of AFTER SCHOOL WORKSHOPS that we offer on Wednesdays from 4-6pm (with 3-4pm as an optional homework hour). The cost for each 3-week workshop is $30 per student, and a waiver is required (download waiver / download FAQ).
Come hang out at your favorite museum, get up close and personal with some Visionary Art. Have a chance to dig through our treasure trove of "random fun" in creating projects inspired by Visionary Artists and our current exhibition. Meet other students interested in a different kind of art and the only requirement is FUN! For more information and questions, contact Felice Cleveland: felice@avam.org.
After School Workshops
Visionary Creature Feature
Wednesdays: February 8, 15, 22 (3rd - 6th Grade)
Push the boundaries with creating new and exciting creatures in a variety of media. Sew a sock creature, create a collaborative book of creatures and play with shrinky dinks in creating some phenomenal and out-of-this world creatures. $30, pre-registration and waiver is required.
Exquisite Corpse Extravaganza
Wednesdays: March 14, 21 & 28 (3rd - 6th Grade)
Experiment with some collaborative + imaginative printmaking techniques to make some truly fantastical creatures. We will push the boundaries of the definition of exquisite corpse when we make them life-size and share our stories, drawings and ideas to make some unexpected characters. We'll learn new artistic techniques while taking our imaginations to visit some new places. $30, pre-registration and waiver is required.
Mechanical Marvels
Wednesdays: April 11, 18 & 25 (3rd - 6th Grade)
As the Kinetic Sculpture Race draws near, we will begin thinking about all things kinetic, mechanical and moveable. We'll dream up our own Kinetic Sculpture Race vehicles, being sure to think about all of the challenges (land, sand, mud + water!). We will look more closely at Scott Weaver's sculpture Rolling Through the Bay and build our own intricate and kinetic sculptures. Lastly, we'll learn all about the infamous Cabaret Mechanical Theater and build our own whimsical creatures and characters. Come with us as we get moving and making! $30, pre-registration and waiver is required.
We Are Visionaries
Wednesdays: May 16, 23 & 30 (3rd - 6th Grade)
The grand finale to year of visionary making, playing and fun! We'll use all our knowledge about our favorite visionary artists in creating a 3-d story, props, costumes and back drops. We'll rummage through our files to find out everything we can about these fascinating and imaginative artists so that we can tell their stories at our final reception on May 30th! $30, pre-registration and waiver is required.
