The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) is the national repository for self-taught artistry and intuitive thinking. AVAM is dedicated to our Education Goals and inspiring visitors to seek their own creativity and recognize wonder in the world around them.

DESCRIPTION
The Curatorial Department at AVAM is seeking an undergraduate student to assist with the daily operations of the Department and on special projects.

Tasks will include following:

• Art Collections Management: inventory, label, file, and organize digital and physical art collections records; digitize records and create physical copies of collection records

• Organization of Library Spaces: Sort, file, and document various archival Museum history records; categorize library books and educational resources; sort and organize media files of different formats
including VHS, DVDs, floppy disks, hard drives, records

• Cleaning Gallery Spaces: research upcoming exhibition & write one lesson plan and program plan

• File and record

• Streamline AVAM history through organizing Institution’s exhibition & press records

• Digitize media files for future educational purposes

REQUIREMENTS
This internship is available to undergraduate/post graduate students studying fine art, art history, art education, museum studies, arts administration, and students interested in pursuing a museum career.

DETAILS
The internship position will require approximately 15 hours a week (MON-FRI) which can be adjusted to best meet the student’s and the Department’s schedule. Start and end dates are flexible but should be during the summer months of July-August. This is an unpaid internship, but course credit can be applied if appropriate.

Internship candidates should have:

• Experience working with libraries, collections, archival facilities

• Passion for library sciences and data/record keeping

• Strong ability to work independently, passion for cross-disciplinary research

• Positive attitude with an attention to detail

• Strong organizational and communication skills
