About the Event
The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) is thrilled to announce our Compassion in Action Scholarship Program! Inspired by our current mega-exhibition, “HEALING & THE ART OF COMPASSION (And the lack thereof!),” and with the intent to inspire students to actively practice compassion as they move through the world, AVAM will award fifty (50) $500 scholarships to Baltimore area K-12 students who have incorporated extraordinary compassionate actions into their daily lives.
Each entry must present evidence of exceptional actions that express a real understanding of the importance of compassion and a creative commitment to make compassionate action a continuing part of their future life. Compassion for other human beings, respect for elders, nature, and animals are among possible great examples.
Each applicant should express, in 250 words or less, how they have incorporated compassion into their own actions and just what compassion means to them. Young children can orally dictate their submission to a teacher, parent or guardian, or older sibling, for transcription or via filming. All entries must attest to the truth of their compassionate act(s).
We give huge thanks to AVAM Board Members Marilyn Meyerhoff and Sam Feldman for their heartfelt caring, wisdom, creativity, and philanthropy in thinking up and making possible all of these wonderful new student scholarship opportunities.
How to apply:
Send AVAM a written response of 250 words or less, photos and/or video demonstrating acts of compassion and kindness.
- Submit online at AVAM.org
