The American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) is the national repository for self-taught artistry and intuitive thinking. AVAM is dedicated to our Educational Goals and inspiring visitors to seek their own creativity and recognize wonder in the world around them.
Overview:
The American Visionary Art Museum seeks a friendly, creative, outgoing Education Associate to assist the Director of K-12 & Adult Education. This is a part-time position (approx. 24-29 hrs/week) with a starting hourly rate of $18.25.
The Education Associate will assist in all tasks of classroom and event functions including but, not limited to:
IN PERSON PROGRAMS:
Set-up and clean up for workshops.
Prepare supplies for workshops and help keep an inventory of supplies.
Lead and/or assist during all K-12 and adult workshops.
Assist during professional development workshops.
Plan and facilitate AVAM’s off-site after school program, Visionary Explorers.
Accompany the Education staff during outreach and off-site workshops.
Oversee artists during weekend workshops.
Assist with set-up/clean up/planning for AVAM events as directed by the Director of K12 & Adult Education.
Assist with educational mailings as well as general Museum mailings.
VIRTUAL PROGRAMS:
Host virtual museum tours and workshops on Zoom with AVAM volunteer docents.
Prepare slide decks for virtual tours.
Prepare supplies for virtual workshops as needed.
Assist with planning virtual programming for all audiences.
Update Education databases as directed by the Director of K-12 & Adult Education.
Conduct general research as directed by the Director of K-12 & Adult Education.
qualifications
BFA/BA in related field.
Museum experience a plus.
Min. 3 years in art instruction.
Possess strong classroom management skills.
Experience instructing students of all ages.
Possess strong ability to function as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
Possess enhanced skills in creative problem solving and prioritize actions to effectively meet deadlines.
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Possess enhanced analytical ability and decision-making skills.
Demonstrate the ability to keep pace with technology and continually enhance computer skills.
