AVAM's new visual feast YUMMM! features 34 visionary artists, joining forces with food scientists, farmers, nutritionists, environmental activists, psychologists, poets and humorists to publicly explore humankind's complex, multi-layered relationship with food.

Experience Encantada

Encantada is the new restaurant located on AVAM's 3rd floor that features local Chesapeake cooking. Drawing on the importance of "roots," both creative and culinary, Encantada supports regional farms, ranches, and aqua-culture, thus nurturing the concept of sustainability. Experience this enchanted escape where boundaries are blurred and tastes are celebrated.

Join us for an Open House, exclusively for Teachers & Educators at AVAM! Educators of all kinds are invited to this special event to collect visionary resources for the classroom and learn about the educational programming available at AVAM. We will provide information on student group visits, hands-on workshops, guided tours, and more! Stop by to pick up our classroom-ready, interdisciplinary education packet, try your hand at a visionary activity, and receive a special guided tour through our new exhibition: Yummm! The History, Fantasy, and Future of Food.

Mosaics Workshop

A One-Day MOSAIC WORKSHOP with Rick Shelley! Come and learn the ancient art of mosaic. You will get a chance to learn about a variety of techniques and walk away with your own finished piece of art.

Join us in your spookiest costume for a "Lumin-Eeries" Lantern-Making Workshop from 5-7pm. Also enjoy free museum admission from 5-7pm. AVAM's popular Flicks from the Hill outdoor movie series will make a one night only fall comeback with Young Frankenstein (1974) on Federal Hill at 7 pm.

Join us on Sunday, November 6 for AVAM's first-ever Bhangra Festival in celebration of Punjabi culture and featuring Earth's happiest dance - Bhangra of Bollywood movie fame and mercifully easy and fun to learn! Come to this members-only event for dancing, music, movies, delicious food, Henna demonstrations, and a mini Nek Chand Sculpture exhibition–all FREE to AVAM Members!

This event, is, in part, to honor the beautiful life of Ajit Ahuja, who, even as a small boy, managed to deeply touch AVAM's director Rebecca Hoffherger's heart and tragically passed away 5 years ago.

Beat the crowds! An opportunity to get the first shot at the original creations by over 40 regional artists and craftspeople prior to the Saturday BAZAART extravaganza. Spend a relaxing evening with BAZAART artisans as you preview their wares while nibbling light fare and enjoying a special beverage (beer, wine, soda). PLEASE NOTE: Only the Friday evening BAZAART Preview Party requires admission, the Saturday BAZAART Holiday Art Market is FREE & open to the public.

TICKETS: $20 General Public, $10 Members (benefits AVAM). Tickets will be sold at the door. Members, please bring your Fan Club Card or a photo ID to receive Member discount.

AVAM's Annual Holiday Marketplace of original creations by over 40 regional artists and craftspeople. Painting, sculpture, paper crafts, metalwork, jewelry, textiles, mixed media, and other work that simply defies categorization! FREE ENTRY, and of course, the museum and Sideshow will be open too.

LOCATION: AVAM's Jim Rouse Visionary Center, 3rd Floor.

NOTE: Bazaart shoppers are welcome to tour the entire Jim Rouse Visionary Center for free on this day, and the rest of the museum will be open 10am-6pm (regular admission applies).

Saturday, December 10, 2016 • 10am-2pm • Cost: FREE! *Please bring 2 pairs (clean & colorful) socks & your own scissors!

Don't let the holidays drive you BANANAS! Relax by making your very own Sock Monkey–a great last-minute gift, and just something fun to do with the family. AVAM's huge sock monkey making extravaganza is FREE to attend, but you must bring your own socks (2 pair, clean & colorful) and scissors to get in. Instructions, stuffing, sewing needles, thread, visionary baubles and camaraderie will be provided. After your sock monkey is finished, stop by our main building and tour the current exhibits (regular admission applies. $2 off discount offered for Sock Monkey Sat. participants).
