AVAM's 20th original exhibition champions life's grand "Aha!" and "Eureka!" moments, held in common by Earth's most dynamic and intuitive "evolutionaries:" inventors, scientists, America's founding fathers, dreamers and saints; each touched by some lightening bolt of greater understanding, insight, grace and muse.

Flicks From The Hill
Thursdays: July 9–Aug 27 • Free screenings @ 9pm on Federal Hill! AVAM Open & Free 5–9pm on Flicks nights!

Grab a blanket, picnic under the stars, and watch a great film selection inspired by AVAM's current exhibition, The Visionary Experience. The Hughes Family Outdoor Theater features seating for more than a thousand on the natural amphitheater formed by Federal Hill; a 30-foot wide screen held from above by a Giant Golden Hand; a twinkling view of the city; and an amazing community experience that is FREE!


Flicks Food Truck Night!
Thursday, August 27 • 5:30-8:30pm • FREE entry

We're celebrating the close of the 2015 season of Flicks From The Hill with a Food Truck Night! Free entry, just bring cash or credit to pay for your grub. Feast on delicious eats from Baltimore's finest food trucks. Then stick around for the closing night flick: The Wizard of Oz (free screening starts @ 9pm on Federal Hill).

AVAM's 20th yearlong exhibition, The Visionary Experience: Saint Francis to Finster, is coming to a close on Sunday, August 30. Don't miss your last chance to experience this original exhibition that champions life's grand "Aha!" and "Eureka!" moments, and features a spirited centennial celebration of America's most prolific self-tutored and "on fire" artist, Rev. Howard Finster, along with 40 other visionary inventors, scientists, dreamers and artists.


Sew-an-Idea with P.Nosa
Saturday, August 29 • 10am–3pm
FREE! (donations appreciated)

Legendary perfectionist and sewing artist, P.Nosa will draw your imagination! You give him a scenario in five words (or less) and he will sew it for you on the spot. His sewing machine is either solar or bike powered (depending on weather and bike-riders, of course). Help ride the bike, power the sewing machine and create the energy for your very own sewn drawing!

AVAM is excited to offer a series of FREE AFTER SCHOOL WORKSHOPS at the Baltimore County Public Library (Reisterstown Branch) and the Enoch Pratt Free Library (Brooklyn Branch). Students and families are encouraged to join us in exploring creative new territory inspired by our most beloved visionary artists, their unusual art-making materials, and their unforgettable stories!


MOSAICS with Rick Shelley
Saturday, September 12 • 10am–4pm $100, $75 Members

A One-Day MOSAIC WORKSHOP with Rick Shelley! Come and learn the ancient art of mosaic. You will get a chance to learn about a variety of techniques and walk away with your own finished piece of art. Supplies will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring some of their own (shells, buttons, glass, beads, pebbles, etc. are welcome), but please be sure to PACK A LUNCH.


Docent 101

In search of AVAM super-fans who are interested in joing the legendary ranks of volunteer docents. As an AVAM docent, you'll share your knowledge of Visionary Art with visitors of all ages. Are you up for the challenge? If you're interested in learning more about AVAM's Docent Program, we hope to see you at our Docent 101 meeting!


The Big Hope Show Preview Party
Friday, October 2 • 7–10pm FREE for AVAM Members, $20 General Public

AVAM welcomes our newest exhibition The Big Hope Show with our always popular: Exhibition Preview Party! Fan Club Members get FREE admission, and a limited number of General Admission tickets will be on sale in advance only to non-members and guests. Light hors d'oeuvres and beverages, music, and fun! All ages welcome, MUST show photo ID for over 21 wristband.


Shiny Happy Things with Bob Benson
Saturday, October 10 • 11am–2pm $50, $35 Members

Join the creator of the Blinged-Out Universal Tree of Life (outside of AVAM's Main Entrance) in making your own FLASHIES: dynamic, sparkling decorations made from mirrors and marbles and such. Each participant will receive instruction on cutting and assemblage and will leave this workshop with at least two finished decorations to keep and dangle. For beginning and continuing students.


Educator Open House

Educators of all kinds are invited to this special event where you can collect visionary resources for the classroom and learn about the educational programming available here at AVAM. We will provide information on student group visits, hands-on workshops, guided tours, and more! Stop by to pick up our classroom-ready, interdisciplinary education packet, try your hand at a visionary activity, and receive a special guided tour through our new exhibition: The Big Hope Show.


Build-A-Boo Puppet Workshop
Saturday, October 17 • 10am–4pm $125, $100 Members

Just in time for Halloween — create your own furry monster friend with The Puppet Master: Tiffany Lange of Charm City Puppets. You'll design and sew your own hand and rod monster puppet from scratch using one of Tiffany's patented patterns. Then give it a hair-raising or hilarious personality with eyes, ears, fangs and more.


AVAM's FREE FALL Halloween Celebration

BAZAART First Dibs Preview Party

Beat the crowds! An opportunity to get the first shot at the original creations by over 40 regional artists and craftspeople prior to the Saturday BAZAART extravaganza. Spend a relaxing evening with BAZAART artisans as you preview their wares while nibbling light fare and enjoying a special beverage (beer, wine, soda). Tickets will be sold at the door and benefit AVAM.


BAZAART Holiday Art Market

AVAM's annual holiday art market returns! Hundreds of original creations by over 40 regional artists and craftspeople, including paintings, sculpture, paper crafts, metalwork, jewelry, textiles, mixed media, apparel, and other work that simply defies categorization! Shop local on #SmallBusinessSaturday and support these original makers! FREE ENTRY, and be sure to visit the museum, Sideshow gift shop, and the all-new 3rd floor restaurant at AVAM, Encantada!


Sock Monkey Saturday
Saturday, December 12 • 10am–2pm FREE, please bring 2 pair socks & scissors!

Don't let the holidays drive you BANANAS! Relax by making your very own Sock Monkey—a great last-minute gift, and just something fun to do with the family. AVAM's huge sock monkey making extravaganza is FREE to attend, but you must bring your own socks: 2 pair, clean & colorful (1 for your monkey and 1 to donate), and scissors to participate. Instructions, stuffing, sewing needles, thread, visionary baubles and camaraderie will be provided.
