Flicks From The Hill
Thursdays: July 10–Aug 28 • FREE Screenings @ 9pm on Fed Hill • AVAM Open & Free 5-9pm on Flicks nights

Grab a blanket, picnic under the stars, and watch a great film selection inspired by AVAM's current exhibition, Human, Soul & Machine: The Coming Singularity! The Hughes Family Outdoor Theater features seating for more than a thousand on the natural amphitheater formed by Federal Hill; a 30-foot wide screen held from above by a Giant Golden Hand; a twinkling view of the city; and an amazing community experience that is FREE.

This stirring exhibit harnesses the enchanting visual delights of remarkable visionaries and cutting-edge futurists, including "Robotmas" – a special installation created by Kenny Irwin Jr., plus works by Rigo 23, Lindsey Bessanson, Fred Carter, Allen Christian, Dalton Ghetti, Temple Grandin, Alex Grey, Ray Kurzweil, O.L. Samuels, Sally Willowbee, and many more. It's a hot-wired blend of art, science, humor, caution and hope!

MOSAICS with Rick Shelley

A One-Day MOSAIC WORKSHOP with Rick Shelley! Come and learn the ancient art of mosaic. You will get a chance to learn about a variety of techniques and walk away with your own finished piece of art. Supplies will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring some of their own (shells, buttons, glass, beads, pebbles, etc. are welcome), but please be sure to PACK A LUNCH.

SHINY HAPPY THINGS with Bob Benson
Saturday, October 11 • 11am–2pm $50, $35 Members

Join the creator of the Blinged-Out Universal Tree of Life (outside of AVAM's Main Entrance) in making your own FLASHIES: dynamic, sparkling decorations made from mirrors and marbles and such. Each participant will receive instruction on cutting and assemblage and will leave this workshop with at least two finished decorations to keep and dangle. For beginning and continuing students.

It's AVAM's freaky Free Fall Halloween Celebration! 4-6pm: Free "Lumin-Eeries" Lantern-Making Workshop in the Barn, Monsters and their Mummies are invited to create their own eerie luminary lantern, just BYO glass jar all others materials like glue, paper, googly eyes & bling are provided. Enjoy Free Museum Admission from 4-7pm, then stick around for a Free screening of Ghostbusters at 7pm on Federal Hill!

AVAM's Annual Holiday Marketplace of original creations by over 50 regional artists and craftspeople. Painting, sculpture, paper crafts, metalwork, jewelry, textiles, mixed media, and other work that simply defies categorization! FREE ENTRY, and, of course, the Museum & Sideshow will be open too!

Saturday, December 13 • 10am–2pm • FREE, please bring 2 pair SOCKS & your own SCISSORS!

Don't let the holidays drive you BANANAS! Relax by making your very own Sock Monkey—a great last-minute gift, and just something fun to do with the family. AVAM's huge sock monkey making extravaganza is FREE to attend, but you must bring your own socks (2 pair, clean & colorful) and scissors to participate. Instructions, stuffing, sewing needles, thread, visionary baubles and camaraderie will be provided.
