(Baltimore, MD) - With its motivating theme, “Color Outside the Lines,” Baltimore’s Congressionally-designated national museum and education center dedicated to showcasing intuitive, self-taught artistry and thought will honor U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-8) with its Grand Visionary Award during a Gala evening that will also welcome new Executive Director Jenenne Whitfield, Saturday, November 19, 2022, 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

“I am beyond thrilled with this opportunity to lead Baltimore’s beloved American Visionary Art Museum forward, building on the solid foundation established by Founding Director Rebecca Hoffberger,” said Executive Director Jenenne Whitfield. “In honoring Maryland Congressman Jamie Raskin for his timely vision of Democracy and the essential role that the anchor institutions of our nation play in creating that long envisioned ‘more perfect union,’ we honor visionaries from every walk of life who inspire us to ‘color outside the lines,’ opening our eyes, minds, and hearts to new possibilities and new beginnings, while also being true to our better selves.”

The AVAM Grand Visionary Award reads: “When faced with adversity, a true visionary -- whether artist, scientist, philosopher, farmer, or political leader -- responds with love, grace, and creativity. Visionaries color outside the lines. They aren’t fazed by societal constraints and expectations but rather draw from their unique spirit to bring to life results that are authentic and meaningful. In doing so, visionaries touch our hearts with their courage.”

The AVAM Gala will begin with cocktails and dinner at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Dance Party at 9:00 p.m., featuring The Groove Spot Band & Show. Guests are encouraged to come colorfully attired and in their own unique fashions, in celebration of their own personal creative spirit and in keeping with the “Color Outside the Lines” theme. Tickets are still available at: AVAM 2022 GALA, and can be purchased for only the Cocktail Party & Dinner, or only the Dance Party, or for both. Complimentary valet parking will be provided.

AVAM’s 2022 Gala is made possible by the generosity of sponsors which include Whiting-Turner and United Therapeutics Corporation as “Glittering Gold” Presenting sponsors, along with M&T Bank as “Sparking Silver” sponsor and Wright, Constable & Skeen LLP and Silverman, Thompson, Slutkin & White as “Brilliant Bronze” sponsors.
