AVAM School Group Visit FAQs:
Do I need to schedule my visit in advance?
Yes. We request at least two weeks notice in order to best prepare for your visit.
How much will my visit cost?
Please see our Group Admission Prices above.
How many students can I bring on my visit?
The museum can accommodate groups of 10 to 120 people.
How many chaperones do I need to bring with my group?
You need at least one chaperone for every ten students over the age of 8. If your students are younger than 8 years old, you will need one chaperone for every five students. Chaperones must accompany their students at all times while on the museum's campus.
Can my group request a docent or tour guide?
Yes! You may request a docent for your visit, and we will do our very best to provide one. Please note that our amazing docents are volunteers and are unable to provide tours for every group that places a request.
Is my group required to have a docent or tour guide?
No. AVAM is designed to be self-guided. We have provided extensive wall text, scavenger hunts for students and information about our artists on the walls throughout the galleries.
Can my group do a workshop in the classroom?
Yes! Workshops must be scheduled in advance, and are available for K-12 students Tuesday-Friday, between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm. The cost for a workshop is $2 per student. At this time, we can only accommodate groups of 10-60 students for a workshop. Please contact our Group Visits Coordinator to schedule your workshop – firstname.lastname@example.org or 410-244-1900 x216.
Can the chaperones participate in the workshops?
No. Chaperones may not participate in the workshops unless prior arrangements have been made.
Can my group have lunch at the museum?
Yes! Weather permitting, we recommend bringing a picnic and blankets to eat on Federal Hill. During colder months, please ask our Education Coordinator about making arrangements for students to have lunch indoors. Prior arrangements must be made.
Can we bring backpacks or lunches into the museum?
No. AVAM requests groups to leave all bags, backpacks and lunches on their bus. Unfortunately we do not have a secure place to store these items inside the museum.
How do I pay for my group?
AVAM accepts cash, check or charge (Visa, Mastercard & Discover). For groups, we need one payment transaction on the day of your visit. To arrange pre-payment, please contact our Group Visits Coordinator: email@example.com or 410-244-1900 x216.
Can my group visit Sideshow, AVAM's gift shop?
Yes. Students are welcome to explore Sideshow in groups of 10 or less. A chaperone must accompany students in the gift shop and keep a watchful eye.
