Virtual Program: Vollis Simpson’s Whirligigs

Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the life and art of Vollis Simpson, the self-taught visionary who created AVAM’s huge outdoor whirligig “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

This program will explore Vollis’ life story, his early inspiration for engineering whirligigs, and the 2022 restoration of AVAM’s iconic whirligig under the direction of Bob Little, AVAM Art Handler and expert builder. We are also excited to welcome Roy Palmer, Executive Director of the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park in Wilson, North Carolina.
