About the Event
Take a journey through the mind of folk artist Vollis Simpson who salvaged junk to create whimsical wind-powered whirligigs like AVAM's three-ton, 55-foot-tall outdoor sculpture Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Children’s Literature Legacy Award winner Carole Boston Weatherford reads her picture book biography, Whirligigs: The Wondrous Windmills of Vollis Simpson's Imagination, illustrated by Edwin Fotheringham.
After the reading, create a wind inspired project with the AVAM Education staff. Project TBD. This event is great for all ages, especially children. Free with museum admission.
